Review guidelines
re-view only works if people can trust what they read. These rules apply to every review and every business.
Writing a review
- Write about your own real experience with the business, from the last 12 months.
- One review per business per person. You can edit it if things change.
- Don't review your own business, your employer, a family member's business or a competitor.
- Don't accept money, discounts or gifts in return for a review.
- No hate speech, threats, personal information, or links to other websites.
Verified purchases
Every review needs proof of purchase: an invoice, receipt or order confirmation. Only our team can see it; the business never does. Your review goes live straight away, and shows a Verified purchase badge once our team has checked the proof. Hide card numbers and other private details before you upload.
How we fight fake reviews
- Every review is checked automatically the moment it is posted. We look at things like brand-new accounts, links, copied text, posting speed and sudden bursts of reviews for one business.
- Reviews that look suspicious are held for a person to check before they go live.
- Each account can post at most five reviews a day.
- Anyone can report a review. Our team reviews every report.
- Accounts that break these rules are banned and their reviews removed.
For businesses
Businesses can reply publicly to any review, but cannot edit, hide or delete reviews, or pay to change their rating. A brand only gets the Verified business badge after our team has checked documents proving the owner runs it. Pages added by customers show as unverified until the owner claims them.
